Over a decade ago Tony Yanow came to Ojai and decided it was home. Now one of his dreams is a reality, with the recently opened Ojai Mountain Farm restaurant in the historic downtown Arcade. “The inspiration from the beginning was to grow the best food possible for my family. As I dug in and learned more about the economics of sustainable natural agriculture, I reimagined what we could do with the land. The vision grew to a community-facing business with the same ethics as we had for our family table,” says Yanow, who is also the person behind the Ojai Pub.
The menu reflects many details that Ojai is known for, with the majority grown and harvested from the region itself. The bar program collaborates with Ventura Spirits to offer locally distilled beverages, including an impressive lineup of aged bourbon whiskeys.
Perusing the menu of cocktails is itself a tour of Ojai highlights: the Strawberry Jam, the Palomish for the grapefruit from Mama Tree Orchard, or its counterpart, the Pink Moment, the zero-proof version that anyone can enjoy. The food menu offers items you can grab-and-go to keep you nourished on your expedition around the enclave, with back garden dining soon to come. Yanow’s past experience with brewery and bar culture means those bar seats beckon you to linger a bit longer in Ojai so you can catch the pink moment at sunset for yourself.
