Edible Santa Barbara Wine Label Artwork Contest
—An Emblematic Approach—
What the Judges Said: This heraldic design is fun and visually appealing, symbolically evoking the sea as referenced in the name Montemar, meaning “hills by the ocean” Clever!
From the winery: Steve and Caryn Arrowood, owners and winemakers of Montemar, started making wine in their garage in Palos Verdes in 1991, sourcing fruit from Santa Barbara County and beyond—making upwards of 14 barrels a year. As Garagistes, the activity was a friends and family experience. The name Montemar came from the street just below their home in Palos Verdes (Via Montemar), which means “Hills by the Ocean.” Steve felt that name was appropriate for the ocean’s influence on the Sta. Rita Hills vineyards.
Many thanks to our judges: Harriet Eckstein, Jennifer LeMay and Michael Nicola.
