Ingredients

  • 3 ounces light agave nectar
  • Juice of two oranges, larger
  • Juice of one lemon, smaller
  • 1 ½ sticks cinnamon, 2-inch sticks
  • 3 cloves, whole
  • 3 allspice, whole
  • 3 black peppercorns
  • 6 dime-sized slices ginger, fresh
  • 1 750 ml bottle red wine

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients except for the wine into a nonreactive pot. Let bubble over medium heat for 10 minutes, so the spices give up some of their essence to the juices.
  2. Turn heat to simmer and add the wine. Let heat gently—do not let it boil—for about 15 minutes (let it get to just above the temperature you will want to drink it). Strain into mugs. Feel free to garnish with cinnamon sticks or orange peels, if you want to be fancy about it.
