Weekend Project: homemade refrigerator must-haves.

Happy Friday, team! We have almost completed our first week of the Eat Local Challenge; I hope you’re feeling healthy and inspired. Now that you have a bit more time on your hands over the weekend, let’s get crafty. Whether you’re a salsa-lover, can’t live without salad dressing or just looking for something to spread on your toast in the morning, homemade condiments will come in handy throughout your entire Challenge.

When participating in the Eat Local Challenge, it can be tough to find condiments that are made of local ingredients. To stick to our goals and avoid giving in to exceptions, let’s make some of our own. Believe it or not, there are a number of easy-to-make condiments that anyone can tackle.

DIY Condiments

Try making one (or more) condiments that you usually buy at the store. This could be salad dressing, salsa, jam or even a basic ingredient like butter or almond milk. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to prepare your own! Jar up whatever you’ve made and stick it at the front of your fridge to have on hand to use whenever you need it—breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks.

Not sure what to make? Take a look at your refrigerator and see what you typically buy or what you are almost out of. Once you start googling, you’ll find endless recipe possibilities. What you make will be so much fresher than what you can buy. Not to mention, it will taste better knowing you made it yourself. Here are some recipes that are as easy as they are satisfying.
