Eat Local Challenge #22

Read Local

Stay inspired with a few good reads!

Although you’re basically a locavore expert by now, there is always more to learn. With fall weather upon us and winter slowly approaching, now is a great time to snuggle up with a book and a blanket. And what better way to continue on this local journey than to connect with someone else’s experience through their writing? You have accomplished 30 days of local eating, so you’ll relate now more than ever to locavore-inspired reads. Who knows, you may read a book that inspires you to continue the Eat Local Challenge for an entire year!

Reading about another’s food choices and experiences with local eating is a promising opportunity to stay motivated at the end of your month-long challenge. We have three exciting reads to recommend; let’s get to it!

Today’s Assignment:

Read Local

Our Challenge is almost over, but let’s stay motivated! Take time this week to start reading a book about local eating. Do a bit of research on what you’d like to focus on, or throw yourself into one of our recommendations. These books may open your eyes to new shopping, eating, and cooking ideas for your next Eat Local Challenge, provide answers to your questions and give you more insight into already-welcomed concepts.

Here are three recommendations to get you started, but the list is endless!

  • Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
  • Plenty: Eating Locally on the 100 Mile Diet by Alisa Smith & J.B. Mackinnon
  • Unprocessed by Megan Kimble

Don’t have time to sit down with a book? Listen to an audio version on your way to work. Let’s get reading!

And congratulations to Alexandra who used the tag #EatLocalChallenge2017 and was selected as our winner. She will receive a copy of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.
