Eat Local Challenge #15

Date Night

The more, the merrier!

Sharing with others is a powerful element in the joys of food: cooking, tasting, enjoying. We’ve gotten to know where our food comes from, and now it’s time to create a new kind of connection. Whether you share good eats with a significant other, a child, neighbor, friend or parent, a significant bond can be created.

Do you remember sitting on your kitchen countertop watching one of your parents prepare a meal to share, or your grandmother letting you lick the chocolate cake batter from her wooden spoon? How about the first meal you cooked with your spouse, or the lasagna your neighbor brought to your doorstep when you first moved in? Food creates memories. Tummies can be happily filled, and long-time friends can be made by collectively experiencing all that food has to offer.

What are we waiting for? Let’s step into the kitchen together…

.

Today’s Assignment:

.

Date Night

Put on your apron and pull someone into the kitchen today, or cook a meal to share with someone—child, neighbor, spouse, friend, parent or acquaintance. The idea is to find someone to create a kitchen memory with and to share the Eat Local Challenge with.

Be sure to explain what you are making and where the ingredients came from. Is it from your favorite stand at the farmers market? A grocery store you’ve found to be stocked with local products?

Maybe you will inspire that person to join you in the Eat Local Challenge (it’s never too late) or to more frequently think about where their food is coming from. If you’re both already participating in the ELC, swap recipes and exchange ideas. And of course, enjoy every last bite together!

By the way, if tonight doesn’t work for you to share a meal with someone, just pick another night this week or during October. It doesn’t matter when you do it—just do it.

Take a picture with your fellow food-lover or the meal you’ve prepared together, and share it with us! Don’t forget to tag #EatLocalChallenge2017
