Eat Local Challenge #14

Evaluate Your Progress

Looking back is sometimes the best way to look forward.

Now that we’re more than halfway done with the Challenge, let’s evaluate. Have these past two weeks been everything you’d hoped? While ‘two weeks’ may sound a little underwhelming, it is indeed an accomplishment.

Your Challenge might be coming along much easier than you expected, or you may be struggling to stay on track. Read on to hear a little bit about how the Challenge has been going for me, and to see how you can optimize the second half of the Challenge.

Today’s Assignment:

.

Evaluate Your Progress

Take a few minutes today to see just how far you’ve come, and how much farther you would like to go.

Take a look at the food diary that you started at the beginning of the Challenge. Even if you haven’t been keeping up with the diary, make some notes on what your progress has been so far. Don’t beat yourself up if you’ve strayed a bit—it’s about progress, not perfection.

For instance, despite my best intentions, I haven’t made all the things from scratch that I wanted to during the Challenge so far. For condiment weekend, I did make strawberry jam, but I still haven’t made butter, almond milk or the yogurt that I was hoping to. Luckily I discovered that C’est Cheese makes yogurt, and you can buy jars of it in their shop. That was a new and delicious discovery for me.

After you’ve looked back on your two-week history, jot down some notes about what you ate that was memorable or new. Or put together a photo collage like the one that I did at the top of this posting. Then make a list of things that you still hope to accomplish. I’d like to visit a farm and do more cooking at home with the ingredients that I’ve been getting in my Plow to Porch box. And perhaps try some new recipes.

Now, we just have 14 days left to go to it!

If you’ve discovered a number of new recipes, places to shop, and restaurants to dine, don’t forget to share them and your progress in the comments, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. with #EatLocalChallenge2017.
